The 7th grade Boys Basketball Team finished their season with a 5 - 6 record. The Boys continued to improve as the season went on defeating some very tough teams and losing some very close games.

Northside Elementary School students received a wonderful surprise when Jamie from Prismatic Magic, a company specializing in laser light programs, arrived and presented a winter holiday laser light show for the children.

During the first week in December, Speech Pathologists, Sandi Waldman and Jamie Colapinto ran the annual "Coats for Kids" coat drive at Summit Lane School.

Northside students participated in a school-wide activity called "Holiday Mail for Heroes". This project, coordinated by teacher, Linda Ungar and Head Custodian, Bob Mehm, in conjunction with the American Red Cross, helped to send a touch of home to United States service members and veterans across the country and abroad.

Recent Public Law identified September 11th as a day for a "Commitment of Service" to one's community by all Americans. After classroom discussions, Abbey Lane School First Grade children chose to help those less fortunate within our own Levittown community by making a donation to the Wisdom Lane Food Pantry.

On October 25, Division Avenue High School hosted the first Mathletes meet of the year. Competitive Math students from Division, MacArthur, and Island Trees attended, setting a record for a Levittown Mathletes Event.

At Gardiners Avenue School, Susan Hendler, School Principal held an instructive workshop for First Grade Teachers, which informed educators about the goals, objectives, and procedures for the implementation of the New Common Core Standards in Mathematics and English Language Arts.

Over 100 eighth grade students participated in Wisdom Lanes Amazing Race on November 10.

After a stunning season where the Lady Generals (16-2) captured both the Nassau County and then the Long Island Championships, on Sunday, November 20 they capped their season by winning the New York State Championship in their Division.

The 7th grade girl's soccer team at Salk Middle School had an outstanding 2011 season both on and off the field. Through the first six games the team was undefeated, and ended up finishing the season with an impressive 7-1-1 record. Caitlin Elia, Kate Baumstein, and Emily Rubbino lead the offense scoring seven goals each during the season. Sarah Andreski totaled an impressive 34 saves at goalie.

Six MacArthur research students, one recent MacArthur research graduate, and MacArthur research teacher David Friedman, were selected to present their work at the Middle States Division of the Association of American Geographers Conference in Kean University (Union, NJ) on November 12, 2011.

All three Kindergarten classes at Summit Lane School helped our school nurse, Mrs. Jean Jannetti, collect travel size toiletry items for the American Red Cross.

On Wednesday, November 2, 2011, 40 students from Ms. Galeno's and Ms. LoGiudice's Division Avenue High School theatre and dance classes went to see the high flying spectacular "Spiderman-Turn Off the Dark" on Broadway.

Donating blood is one of the true gifts that literally comes from the heart. On November 3rd, 112 students and staff from Division Avenue High School signed up to donate their blood.

The Guidance and Counseling Center at Division Avenue High School has been conducting an onsite admissions program for this year's senior class. Seven local colleges have participated to date- SUNY Old Westbury, Hofstra, St. John's, NYIT, Molloy, St Joseph's and CW Post - and have accepted more than 150 student applicants.

Gardiner's Avenue Elementary School offered a workshop for the Kindergarten students and their parents to provide information about motor skills and handwriting.

October 28th was a chilly day as Fifth Graders from four elementary schools across the Levittown School District headed to the track at DAHS for the Fun Run. The FUN RUN is a one-mile run to encourage students to participate more in outdoor physical activities.

The annual New Entrant Breakfast was held at MacArthur on November 4th to formally welcome those students who have entered our school this year from near and far, but not through the typical route.

Congratulations to Carly Ciano and Julie Chu Cheong on being invited to the Long Island Psychology Fair. Each project submitted for consideration to be selected as a finalist and invited to present their work was rated by four blind reviewers who are unaffiliated with the fair.

Junior Leaders at Levittown Jonas E. Salk Middle School participated in a drug and alcohol community awareness project at the Cherrywood Shopping Plaza in Wantagh. The members of this leadership organization created posters to promote the school's Red Ribbon campaign highlighting the dangers of destructive decisions.

Poster ideas, slogans, and speeches have all been part of the nomination process for Fifth Grade candidates at Gardiners Avenue School seeking election for Student Council. A sea of posters with catchy slogans caught the attention of peers as they prepared to listen to students' nomination speeches.

Summit Lane's Student Council held executive board elections on Wednesday, November 9th, 2011. Students in Fourth and Fifth Grade ran for 4 Student Council positions: President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. Student Council class representative Jenna Horan introduced the assembly.

On Friday students delivered their speeches to the third, fourth and fifth grade students. After hearing all of the speeches, student voted on the officers for this year's Student Council and their results were announced Monday, November 07, 2011.

Science research students Ariel Chase (12th grade) and John Dougherty (10th grade) were invited to present their research to scientists and researchers at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Goddard Institute for Space Studies (NASA GISS).

A wonderful new Literacy Center has been introduced at East Broadway Elementary School.

East Broadway Elementary School students were lucky enough to get a visit from the Levittown MacArthur High School Peer Leaders, who shared their love of reading and interacted with the younger students.

Second graders in Mrs. Wolin's class at Lee Road School use the Smart Board to utilized the interactive digital component in their new math program; enVision. The children are extremely excited and motivated for each math lesson!

A student council assembly was held on October 25 at Lee Road Elementary School. Students who were running for this year's positions prepared and read their speeches for the 4th and 5th graders in the school.

The Community Service Committee of Lee Road Elementary School in Wantagh collected dog and cat food that was donated to Bobbi and The Strays; a 100% non-profit no-kill animal rescue organization located in Freeport, New York.

The students and staff at Abbey Lane Elementary School in the Levittown School District had a great idea of how to put all their extra Halloween candy to good use.

Salk Middle School held ESL Family Night, a district-wide event in which the parents and families of Levittown's ESL students were invited to meet with the ESL teachers from Salk, MacArthur High School, and Northside, Summit Lane and Abbey Lane Elementary Schools.

On November 4, the MacArthur High School Peer Leaders put down their text books, picked up story books, and headed over to East Broadway Elementary School to participate in the Special Reader Program.

MacArthur High School students, faculty, and staff welcomed their alumni back to a spectacular homecoming on Saturday, October 22nd. This year's theme, "MacArthur Rolls out the Red Carpet" was apropos because so many people were welcomed throughout the day by the various festivities.

The MacArthur High School gymnasium was the place to be on Wednesday, November 2nd. The MacArthur cheerleading team hosted MacArthur's first annual Battle of the Classes.

Wisdom Lanes Family Game Night sponsored by the National Junior Honor Society raised $1800 on October 27, 2011. The proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

High School Wrestling program. I am writing you this letter to inform you about the
long time MacArthur High School wrestling coach Howie Greenblatt's recent induction
into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame which will take place in April of 2012.

Representatives from approximately 30 colleges and universities attended both Levittown Division Avenue and MacArthur High Schools' first of three annual mini-college fairs.

East Broadway Elementary School students in the Levittown School District learned about making good choices and being good bucket fillers at their "Get a Voice" assembly on Monday, October 24, which kicked off Red Ribbon Week.

The Division Avenue Boys Junior Varsity soccer team, coached by Daniel Cordts, is just about halfway through the season catapulted by a great start in September. Captains Walter Rivera, Alfredo Esposito, and Stephen McMahon have led the team to a record of 7-3-2 to date.

Jonas E. Salk Middle School Library promoted national "Teen Read Week" (Oct. 16-23) with a display about books that have been turned into movies. Students compared and contrasted their favorite book-to-movie adaptations.

On Friday, October 21st, Division Avenue High School students from Ms. Faherty's and Ms. Valenzisi's level 4 and 5 Spanish classes traveled to A La Carte in Valley Stream to engage in an authentically cultural food preparation activity.

The Career Development Program at Division Avenue High School celebrated its annual Halloween Dance on Friday, October 21st in the school cafeteria.

On Tuesday October 4th, Gardiners Avenue School participated in the Make Your Day Better Program sponsored by Office Max in Levittown.

In our District Wide Safety Plan reference is made to specific responses to crisis situations. Our responses will help us prepare for a variety of different emergencies. Each school year these drills are practiced by students and staff to ensure their effectiveness.
